Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving.

Saturday, 26 October 2013

I've been trying to get things organized. Last week I helped my mother get her house in order for fall.

Last Sunday, I received a wonderful compliment from a young lady at church. She commented on how stylish I looked. I never think of myself as stylish. I had on a black Pendleton Lana skirt, a camel J Crew Jackie cardigan, pearls, Kate Spade bow earrings, black Tory Burch Revas, and a black Longchamp LePliage. It was sealed when she saw me put away my Kate Spade wallet.

In the past couple of years, I have become challenged in the casual attire department. I either have professional work clothes or extremely casual clothes, such as sweats and turtlenecks. Tonight, I managed a decent casual outfit. I wore LL Bean jeans, a red cotton turtleneck sweater, pearls, a gold heart pendent, red Kate Spade bow earrings, black Tory Burch Revas, black Tory Burch satchel, and my black Burberry quilted jacket.  Maybe, I have started to conquer my challenges.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday. I'll try not to stay away so long.

Monday, 2 September 2013

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend.

It's time to put away the white shoes, white pants and seersucker.

Saturday, my mother and I went to Sevierville/Pigeon Forge to see what fall goodies we could find.  At Pendleton, I bought two pairs of pants, navy and black and two merino wool turtlenecks.  At Brooks Brothers, I bought a red/white striped blouse, a plum/white striped blouse and a plum v-neck merino wool sweater.  At Bass, I bought a pair of Weejuns with the tassles. At J Crew, I bought 3 Claire cardigans, camel, chartruese and burgandy. At Carter's, I bought my niece a navy cardigan, a pink turtleneck and a white turtleneck.  On the way out of town, we stopped at the Apple Barn and had a fried apple pie for lunch.  We stocked up on apple butter, chow chow and jams.

Sunday, I worked the gate at an Arts in the Park event.  It was a lot of fun.  Today, I have been lazy.  Isn't that what Labor Day is for?  I'm on vacation the remainder of the week.  I hope to get a few chores done and do some more shopping.  I'll keep you update.

I hope everyone has a great Tuesday.

Tuesday, 27 August 2013

I'm still here.

I have a major personal project that I have been working on. More later. Not to worry. It's a great project.

This weekend I'm going to do my fall outlet shopping. I'll report next week on my finds.

I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

Tuesday, 9 July 2013

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July holiday weekend.  I had a nice relaxing weekend.  It wasn't hard to relax since it rained non-stop for three days.  The temperature stayed in the low to mid 70's, which is extremely unusual for July in Alabama.

I'm not sure why, but this time of year I start thinking about my wish list for fall.  On my wish list so far is:

Pendleton pants in black, navy, gray and maybe camel
Blouses from Brooks Brothers Outlet
Cardigans
Kate Spade earrings
Eyeshadow and lipstick in fall colors
Brown flats to wear with jeans and khakis....maybe Clark's.

I can't wait to go on my next shopping trip.  I may have to wait until Labor Day weekend.

I hope everyone has a nice Wednesday.

Sunday, 23 June 2013

I am still cleaning and organizing. It seems that the more I throw away, the more stuff that I have.  On the positive side, I have found stuff that has been lost. I hope to be finished soon...I hope.

Even though I'm not posting, I still keep up with what is going on in blogland.

I hope everyone has a great Monday!

Sunday, 2 June 2013

I have been busy this weekend cleaning and organizing.  I have some magazines that I need to get rid of but can't bring myself to just throw them away.  I think I am going to offer them up on face book.  If no one wants them, I'm not sure what I will do with them.

While cleaning and organizing, I decided to tackle a closet or two.  I found some clothes that I forgot that I own.  I am going to wash them and incorporate them into my present wardrobe.  Classics never go out of style.  I also found a few things that I had outgrown, but since I have lost 20 pounds since the first of the year, they fit.  YAY!  I feel like a new person.

Please continue to keep the people in Oklahoma in your prayers.  They have had more than their fair share of disaster.

I hope everyone has a good Monday.

Prayers for Oklahoma

We need to keep the people of Oklahoma in our thoughts and prayers.  I don't think I have ever seen anything so horrible.  Makes my problems look very small.

I'm Still Here

Things have been pretty busy lately.  I have been fairly busy at work.  I have also been busy at home trying to do some projects that I have neglected for a couple of years.  I have been trying to clean out and organize my belongings.  When I go to my mother's house, she keeps me busy cleaning and organizing.  She had trouble with her knees for a couple of years and neglected some things.  Now that she has two new knees, she is trying to catch up.  Maybe by mid-summer, we will have everything the way we want it.  Wish us luck!

I hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

Saturday, 27 April 2013

I went to Williamsburg, Virginia a couple of weeks ago. BFF MAB enjoy a trip there about every two years.  We were there in October and decided to do another trip in April   The area is one of my favorite places.  I never fail to learn something new while I am there.  I have a degree in history, plus I am descended from a colonial family.  I enjoy learning about my ancestors peers.

It's not all history in Williamsburg.  We enjoyed some great shopping while there.  One night, we went to the outlets.  I bought a basic white blouse at the Brooks Brothers outlet, a azalea cardigan and a multi-strand faux pearl necklace at the J Crew outlet and a couple of pairs of earrings at the Kate Spade outlet.  Next door at the Talbot's outlet, I bought a white tee and a 3/4 sleeved red cardigan.  One rainy morning, we went to the "old lady outlet center".  I was able to replace my Pendleton Lana skirts with a smaller size.  I bought black, navy, camel and charcoal gray.  I now have some skirts that fit.  I also bought a white OCBD and a pink blouse.  In the historic area, I bought a few more pieces of tavern dishes and a cute little tea cup with strainer.  The tea cup is white with a blue pineapple.  I like blue/white porcelain plus I like pineapples.  I didn't have good luck at Binn's.  I hoped to buy some navy shoes, but did not see any.

There is also good food in the area.  We enjoyed meals at three of the taverns and breakfast at the Old Chickahominy House.  One night, we had a good meal at the Carrot Tree in Yorktown.  I ate more than my share of treats from the Raleigh Tavern Bake Shop.   Believe it or not, I only gained 1/2 a pound.

I hope everyone enjoys their Saturday.

Toomer Oaks

The Toomer Oaks are no more.  They came down today.  Such a sad thing.  Some people take the rivalry just a little bit too far.

War Eagle!

Pray for Boston

Please pray for everyone that is effected by the tragedy in Boston.  What kind of evil person can do something like this?  Maybe we will have answers soon.

Lilly Pulitzer RIP

The world lost a fashion icon today.  Lilly Pulitzer was the Queen of Pink and Green. She will be missed by all.

Happy Easter

I hope everyone has a Happy Easter.

I have a 15 month old niece. She has really enjoyed this weekend. First trip to the bake shop, two Easter egg hunts, etc. She ended up being a tired little girl. She will have more fun this afternoon.  This morning, she will wear a light blue Feldman Bros. smocked dress, white socks, white shoes and a white hairbow.  I'll be wearing a linen dress thwt is blac with a hot oink, pink and green print, hot pink Lilly cardigan and black Ferragama flats. I will also wear pearls and pearl stud earrings.

Have a great day!

Tuesday, 26 March 2013

I hope everyone's week is going well.  I can't believe that it is almost Easter and it is freezing outside. Crazy Alabama weather!

So far this year, I have lost about 15 pounds.  It feels so good to be able to get back into some of my old clothes.  It also feels good to have my skirts that I bought back in May fall off of me. I still have about 10 pounds to go.  I hope to keep up the good work until it is off.  I hope that I will be able to keep it off.  I am going shopping in a couple of weeks.  I plan to buy some smaller skirts.

Losing weight has also motivated me to get more exercise.  I've also been getting caught up on chores.

I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Everyone is Irish for the day.  I hope you are wearing your green.

Wednesday, 13 March 2013

May God bless Pope Francis.  I am not Catholic, but I think he will have a positive influence on the world.  The stock market even made a jump.

I try not to discuss religion unless I know that you agree with me.  I am from an area that if you don't go to a certain church, you are doomed.  I think it is disrespectful to criticize another faith.

I also don't discuss politics unless I know that you agree. It's not worth getting upset over.

Now...I don't have a problem discussing football.  If you don't agree with me, it is not my fault that you chose the wrong team. LOL!

I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

Spring Forward

Don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour.

Sunday, 24 February 2013

A few weeks ago, I ordered a grass green cardigan from Lands' End.  Earlier in the day, I purchased a hot pink cardigan at Talbot's sale.  I took them to a monogram place to have them monogrammed.  Last Saturday, I picked them up.  They were perfect!  I had the green cardigan monogrammed with navy interlocking script and the hot pink monogrammed with lime green casual script.  I can't wait to wear them.  I'm going to wear the green with a navy skirt and navy/white striped blouse.  The hot pink is going to be reserved for weekend casual wear with jeans or khakis.

I had planned on being lazy this weekend, but got a burst of energy and cleared out a bunch of projects that I was saving for next month.  I feel good to have them behind me.

Last night I stayed up late reading early posts and comments from my blog.  There were a lot of bloggers who always commented that are not around anymore.  Preppy 101, BroncoMom, Kate to just name a few.  I guess people's lives get busy or their priorities change.  There are new bloggers popping up every day. I'm preppy in a non-preppy environment.  I rely on the preppy blogs to keep up with what is out there.

I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Tuesday, 12 February 2013

I can't believe it has been a week since my last post.

Since I have lost two people that I was close to tragically, I decided to spend my free time immersed in shallow mindless stuff.  I have gotten addicted to wicked preppy and prepfection tumblr sites.  I cruise the sites getting inspiration for outfits that are not so boring. It has been very relaxing.  You need to check them out.

I'm on the lookout for some nice navy flats that are appropriate for work.  I would love a pair of navy Tory Burch Revas, but they are not to be found.  I like the Ferragamo Varinas but they don't come in narrow widths.  I may have to go to Saks and try them on.  Have any of you seen any cut navy flats out there?  I haven't even seen any that aren't cute. LOL!

I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

Sunday, 3 February 2013

I have to go to another funeral tomorrow.  My boss from my previous job took his own life last week.  I'm not sure of the circumstances, but he never gave me any indication that he was a troubled person.  I was his executive assistant for almost three years.  He was very good to offer me a job when I thought I was about to be displaced.  I pray for his widow and his two little girls.  My heart is heavy as is the hearts of all who knew him.  He will be missed.

Saturday, 26 January 2013

While in Nashville, I bought the earrings below at Kate Spade.

At Brooks Brothers, I bought two blouses.  One is navy and white striped and the other is cranberry and white striped.

I also searched for a pair of Tory Burch navy Reva flats, but did not have any success.  The Tory Burch store didn't have them and neither did Nordstrom.  If you spy any, let me know.

I ended my shopping at The Container Store.  I bought three cracker jars and two juice bottles.

I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Wednesday, 23 January 2013

This has been ordered.  I can't wait until it arrives.

Monday, 21 January 2013

My sad week ended on a happy note. As many of you know, my sister and brother-in-law have been foster parents.  Five years ago, they rescued a teenage boy from a dysfunctional home.  He has finished high school and is now in college.  He still refers to my sister and brother-in-law as his parents.  He got married on Saturday to a very sweet young lady.  I wish them much happiness. Their wedding was beautiful and special.

Sunday, my mother and I went to Nashville.  It was a very successful trip.  I will report later on my finds.

I hope every one has a great Tuesday.

Saturday, 12 January 2013

My heart is broken. Thursday night, I found out that my sweet cousin, Lisa was shot and killed by her husband. Her daughter was also shot and will fully recover. They were shot by their husband and father, who is a very prominent minister.  After he shot them he stabbed himself. He will survive and face criminal charges. I am stunned at how a good person can do something like this. The husband recently suffered a heart mishap and two accidents. I'm sure the injuries and the meds caused him to be unhinged. I wonder if we will ever know what caused him to act so violently.

Lisa was one of the sweetest people that I know. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding. She was always calm and tried to keep everyone else calm.  She would always forgive and forget. I hate that her death has made the national media and has caused horrible comments from people who do not even know her.

Please keep her daughter, Suzzanna, and all of their friends and family in your prayers.  Maybe one day we will learn answers to questions.

Wednesday, 9 January 2013

The post that I did last week got more hits than any that I have ever posted.  I'll try to repost it every few months just for grins.

As hard as I tried to do good with my eating over the holidays, I ended up with tight skirts and jeans.  On December 27, I started the South Beach Diet.  I know it is not a very popular diet, but it works for me.  Today, I was able to get back in my most of my normal clothes.  But, I'm not stopping.  I still have about 20 more pounds of the 30 pounds that I gained over the past three years.  I have have been trying my best to lose it, with not much success.  I think now my attitude is right to be successful.

I hope everyone has a great Thursday!
