Is it just me, or do y'all miss the old A&E network? I used to turn to A&E when there was nothing else on. I enjoyed Inspector Frost, Midsomer Mysteries, Biography and series like The House of Elliott. Now, they show Dog, the Bounty Hunter, Intervention and some Gene Simmons reality show. They used to show quality television. I really don't know how to describe it now. I keep hoping that one day they'll come to their senses and return it to the way it was and was probably meant to be.

I hope everyone has a good Thursday.

Monday, 26 April 2010

Yesterday was a beautiful day, and the temperature was just right..not too hot and not too cool. I took advantage of the nice weather and ran a few errands.

Today, it is cloudy and cool. I stopped by Barnes & Noble on the way home and picked up the two latest paperbacks by Laura Childs. If you like mysteries, you'll like Laura Childs. I read the Tea Shop mysteries and the Cackleberry Club mysteries.

I'm thinking about taking a short trip to Natchez soon. Has anyone been? I would love some suggestions for restaurants and shopping. While there, I plan on touring Monmouth, Stanton Hall, Longwood, and a couple of other historic homes. Any suggestions?
One more thing. Don't forget that Mother's Day is coming up. Check out A. Tierney and get 20% off.

I hope everyone has a good Tuesday.

Sunday, 25 April 2010

I was up until after midnight last night waiting on the last bad storm to pass through. It weakened before it got here. I woke up to sunny skies. Everything is so nice and fresh and clean outside. I've always noticed that the air is fresh and clean the day after a bad storm. I guess it blows all of the pollution and pollen away.

I'm doing laundry right now. I found some more clothes that I can finally fit into. It made my day. I have a few more loads to go.

After lunch, I am going to go to Target, Belks, The Fresh Market and then ride by BFF MAB's new house. I didn't get out yesterday, so I'm going to make up for it today.

Since I broke my foot, I've been having to deal with things that I took for granted. I have to be really careful in most of the things that I do. I have trouble wiping my feet and moving doorstops. When bad weather is on the way, I can barely walk. This morning my foot is so much better.

I hope everyone has a great Sunday. Back to my laundry.

Saturday, 24 April 2010

I had so much planned to do this weekend, but mother nature made sure that my plans didn't happen. BFF MAB bought a new house. I was going to drive by and look at the outside (the seller still lives there). After checking out the house, I was going to do several errands. First, the weatherman said that we were going to have rain. I thought that instead of errands, I would stay home and watch a few episodes of Season 2 of Mad Men. Now, the weatherman says that we could have a tornado...or two...or three. Now, I have to keep an eye on the weather. That is one of the disadvantages of living in Alabama. We have nice temperatures in the spring, if you don't get blown away by a storm.

Since I have to stay inside, I decided that I would do a few household chores. I got a lot done. After my chores, I decided to put on something fun and colorful. So I have on a turquoise polo by Lilly along with my light khaki capris. I also have on pearls, of course.

I hope everyone enjoys their Saturday. I hope the weather is better where you live.

Thursday, 22 April 2010

Today after work, I stopped by Bed, Bath & Beyond. I bought a new SimpleHuman trash can. I have been intending on buying one for a while, but when I saw that you got a free mini trash can, I decided to go today. I also bought my mother one.

After I left BB&B, I headed to Belk's. I bought some Kiehl's face cleanser and then headed upstairs. I tried on some Lilly dresses, but did not buy one. I'm undecided about which one I like best. I'm going to think about it for a couple of weeks.

I am so glad that tomorrow is Friday. I don't think I can take another day in this week.

I hope everyone has a great Friday.

Wednesday, 21 April 2010

Today, I had my first headache since December. I used to average about 4 sinus headaches a week. Since the orthopedic surgeon prescribed an arthritis drug for my foot, I have not had a headache until today. With the drug, I cannot take aspirin or ibuprofen. All I can take is Tylenol. I had a hard time finding anyone at work who had some Tylenol that they could loan me. I finally found some about 2:15. In no time, my headache was gone. What was so great, was that my legs were not as stiff this afternoon.

I felt so great when I got home, that I worked around the house and got a lot of chores taken care of. Now all I have to do Saturday morning is dust and vacuum.

I tried on some more of my clothes this afternoon. They are fitting much better. That will give me more things to wear when the weather turns warmer. I can't wait for warmer weather so that I can wear my Lilly dresses that I bought last summer.

I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

Monday, 19 April 2010

I went to the dentist this morning and had a great check-up. I have a great dentist. She is always so positive and upbeat. I love having my teeth flossed at the dentist office. It is like having my hair washed at the beauty shop. I know, that's weird.

Queenie is out this week on vacation. I have it by myself. It was slow until after lunch and then it got busy. I hope the remainder of the week is busy. It will make the time go faster.

Does anyone else watch The Big Bang Theory? I think that is one of the funniest shows on TV right now. I never miss it. Everyone at work watches it, and we always discuss it on Tuesday mornings. I record Gossip Girl so that I can watch Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory.

I hope everyone has a great Tuesday.

Thursday, 15 April 2010

An anonymous poster was curious about some things, so I am going to answer their questions. First of all, the reason that I am not married is that I have dated several frogs and none have ever turned into princes. Some have even turned into toads. But, I haven't given up. I know that there is someone out there for me and I will find him one day (or he will find me). I don't think I buy a lot of stuff, but if I do, it's my stuff and I like my stuff. I may spend a lot of time with my mother, but she's always been there for me. When I broke my foot, she came and got me and took me to her house, took me to the doctor and waited on me until I was able to do things for myself. She never complained and I never complained if she didn't do things the way that I do them. I feel that I am lucky to have a mother that I enjoy visiting. Plus, I have a lot of friends and family that live close to her. That should answer the questions.

I have a funny story about my co-worker's husband. Yesterday, he called to ask if either of us knew how to get rid of a tick. It seems that he had a tick in a very embarrassing place for a man. Why he shared that with us is beyond me. We told him a couple of remedies, which he rejected. He then decided to call the vet, not the doctor, but the vet. The vet told him how to safely remove it. When my coworker got home, he made her take him to the "Doc in the box" to make sure that he got it all. He had to see a female doctor who had a female assistant. I would have rather died of tick fever that have to go through that. Apparently all is well now. That was just a little too much for me.

I watched the series finale of Ugly Betty. I couldn't help but cry - don't laugh. To me, it ended in a way that they could do a show about her adventures in London...if they wanted to. Now, I'm going to have to find some new shows to watch since Ugly Betty and Greek don't come on anymore.

I hope everyone has a great Friday.

Tuesday, 13 April 2010

Sunday after church, my mother and I went to a local restaurant for lunch. While we were there, there was an anniversary party going on. The couple go to our church. They had the most unusual cake. It was a couple laying in bed. The woman had her head on the man's chest. The man was scratching the belly of a dog laying on the other side. Beside the bed was a dog bed. It was very creative. We found out that the cake was made by Duff from "Ace of Cakes". Someone went all the way to Baltimore to get the cake. Is that not too cool?

I don't know if I have mentioned this, but Queenie and I work side by side now. Even though she can get on my nerves, I feel really bad for her. I guess since we work so close, she says things about her husband without thinking. I pretend it goes over my head. Her husband has not worked for over 15 years...at all. Queenie is the sole bread winner of the household. Her husband is a pack rat. Their house is wall to wall junk. She is taking vacation next week just to make him clean out the junk and sell it at a yard sale. I think he may be resisting. Today he was late to pick her up because he was at the junk yard, buying more junk. And, he was probably spending her money. I don't know how she puts up with him. It would be different if he were a nice guy. He takes advantage of her and puts her down every chance he gets. Even though he brings her to work and then picks her up, she has to call and remind him to come get her. Then she has to go home and cook dinner. If my husband didn't work, he'd have my dinner on the table when I got home. Okay, I've had my say. I can't say too much about her. She was great to carry my load while I was out with my broken foot. I just hope her life works out for her.

I finally ordered the Tretorns with the pink gullwings. I've been talking about ordering them for a couple of weeks. I thought they would be great to wear with all of my pink clothes, especially the Lilly. I'll be glad when it warms up a little bit more. I'm ready to wear my skirts and dresses...with my Tretorns.

I hope everyone has a good Wednesday. If you are an Ugly Betty fan, don't forget that tomorrow night is the series finale.

Saturday, 10 April 2010

Yesterday, Queenie and I met a former coworker for lunch. We only had an hour. We could have stayed all day. We talked and talked. As a friend would put it:

pick-a-little, talk-a-little, pick-a-little, talk-a-little, cheep, cheep, cheep, cheep, cheep, pick-a-little, talk-a-little, pick-a-little, talk-a-little more.

Yes, we were like three hens.

Last night I went to the 2 year old's birthday party. It was a lot of fun. I think he enjoyed the entire evening. I've been dieting for the past couple of months, but last night, I ate like a pig. I had a hot dog with red slaw, a hamburger with everything, potato chips, Tostados with spinach dip and two small pieces of cake. I can't believe I ate so much. It wasn't just me. Everyone ate like that. Apparently we were all hungry for children's birthday party food.

Today, I was able to sleep late. It felt so good. After our chores, my mother and I went grocery shopping and then to another town to eat at the Cracker Barrel. We had a taste for vegetables. After the 30 minute trip back home, I couldn't wait to sit in my chair and relax and read the latest issue of Saveur magazine. Cracker Barrel, Saveur...what a combo!

I hope everyone enjoys the remainder of their weekend.

Thursday, 8 April 2010

Tonight on the way home from work, I stopped by Target to get my sister's foster son a birthday present for his 2nd birthday. She wanted me to find him a toy broom and/or mop, but they didn't have one. Apparently, they don't make them any more. I got him a train made out of building blocks and a toy rake.

When I got home, I watched last night's episode of Ugly Betty. I can't believe that next week's episode is the final episode of the series. I'm going to miss Ugly Betty. All good things must come to an end. It has been one of my favorite shows for the past few years. Hopefully ABC will come up with something equally as good to replace it.

I hope everyone has a good Friday. TGIF!!

Wednesday, 7 April 2010

Last night, I watched Rear Window. It is one of my favorites. Tonight, since there is nothing on, I am watching Making the Grade. Talk about your preppy overload. It's lame, but I love seeing all of the preppy fashions.

This afternoon on my way home from work, I stopped at Sears. I bought a Lands End sleeveless navy shift and a Lands End apple green cardigan. The cardigan is so Lilly looking. I think I may order the shift in khaki and a turquoise cardigan. Since I don't have to wear the silver and yellow big Nike's, I feel like I can wear dresses and skirts. I feel like I'm in college again with my skirts and dresses worn with my Tretorns. All I need is a pair of Tretorns for each outfit.

I went out to my car this morning and it was covered with pollen. All of the cars were covered, even the asphalt. It is supposed to rain after midnight. Maybe it will rinse some of it away. Then, there will be more pollen. I will be so glad when it stops.

I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

Tuesday, 6 April 2010

There is nothing on television tonight. I decided to watch Rear Window. I just love that movie. I would love to have a pearl choker like the one that Grace Kelly wears. I bet it is 14".

This week, I have decided that each day on my way home from work, I am going to do a little shopping. Tonight, I stopped off at Belk's to get some Kiehl's eye cream. While there, I went upstairs to the Lilly Pulitzer and looked around. I tried on a couple of dresses, but I didn't buy one. I did buy a tube of Wink body cream. Tomorrow night, I am going to run by Sears and check out a Lands End sleeveless dress that I saw the other night while I was there. If it fits, I will buy the navy and maybe order the khaki. I have several cardigans that I can wear with them. Thursday is grocery night.

I think some of the swelling is going away in my foot. It looks all shriveled up, like when you have soaked in the bathtub for too long. Maybe in a few months, all of the swelling will be gone.

I hope everyone has a good Wednesday.

Sunday, 4 April 2010

We had a great day today. After church, we went over to my sister's house for a delicious meal. Afterwards, the kids enjoyed hunting Easter eggs.

I don't know if I have ever mentioned this, but my sister has four foster children. The three youngest are under 4 years old. The youngest has been living with her since September. He wins everybody's heart. The oldest is in high school and plans on living with them until he graduates college, yes college. He is a great kid. The other two are biological siblings and have only been living there for about 3 weeks. The newest children's mother wanted my sister and her family to attend church with her. My sister declined because she didn't feel like she should give up her day at her church for her. DHR asked the mother to attend our church. She did, which could have been an awkward situation, but the mother acted normal. Maybe the mother will get her children back soon. She had a drug problem, but has been clean for a short time. The children adore her. The youngest one's parents have some health problems that hinder them getting him back. They told my mother that they were glad that he lived in a household that loved him.

As I said above, the foster children's biological mother attended church with us and then came over and ate Easter dinner. She seemed fairly nice and appreciative of my sister's hospitality. The only thing, she didn't seem sad to leave her children there. Maybe she was putting up a good front. If those children are meant to go back to their mother, so be it.

I hope everyone had a good Easter.
HAPPY EASTER!!!

I hope the Easter Bunny was good to you.

Saturday, 3 April 2010

I'm having some weird issues with my computer today. When I turned it on, the MSN homepage was in Japanese. I finally got that fixed. Then, I went into my blog and all of the headings at the top of the page were in Japanese. I signed into google and it fixed it...temporarily. I have to go through google to get to my dashboard. Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so, how did you fix it?

We woke up to dark skies and rain. About 2:00, the sun came out. It has been beautiful since. I hope it is pretty for Easter. I finally remembered to buy an arch support for my new Tretorns. Now, I have a new pair of shoes to wear to church tomorrow. I call them my Easter tennie shoes. Don't gasp, Miss Janice. I hope to be in my regular shoes in a few months. I decided to just go ahead and wear my nice dresses with my Tretorns. Everyone that knows me knows that I am recovering from a broken foot.

Tomorrow I'll be wearing a Brooks Brothers navy sleeveless dress, a Lands End light blue cardigan and Tretorns with navy gullwings. I'll also be wearing my pearls, of course. After church, we're going to my sister and brother-in-law's for hot dogs, ham, potato salad, green bean casserole, and of course, deviled eggs. The hot dogs are for the kids.

I hope everyone has a nice Easter. Have fun and be careful.

Thursday, 1 April 2010

Today was a beautiful day here in the Magic City. The temperature was just right, and the
dogwoods and Bradford Pears were stunning. I hope it is just as beautiful in your neck of the woods. The warm weather has been good for my foot. Since the temperatures have been rising, I feel the hardware in my foot less and less. It makes it so much easier to walk.

Tonight when I was at Publix, I bought some hot cross buns to take to my mother's house for the holiday weekend. I have not had hot cross buns in years. I remember when I was younger, my grandmother and I used to sing a song called Hot Cross Buns. I think it went something like this:

Hot cross buns,
Hot cross buns,
One a penny,
Two a penny,
Hot cross buns.

Do you remember that song? I don't hear it anymore.

I hope tomorrow is a quiet day at work. Most people think that the banks are closed. Guess again.

I hope everyone has a good Friday. If I don't post this weekend, have a Happy Easter...and I hope all of you find the prize egg.
