I got caught up at work today...like that's a big accomplishment.
Like most of you, I read a lot of preppy clothing and Trad clothing blogs. My late father sold Trad clothing for many years, so I've always been familiar with the style and the brands. I have never been afraid to admit that I am a brand person. I have never had the knack for looking at or feeling a garment to determine the quality (or lack thereof). I go by brands. Reading these blogs makes me miss the brands that I use to trust. Remember Carroll Reed and Eagles' Eye? I think they were sister companies. I still have several turtlenecks and jackets that I bought at Carroll Reed and at the Eagles' Eye outlet and they still look good. I think that says a lot about the quality. My favorite brand for OCBD's was Ms. Sero. I think it was the ladies division of Sero, maker of men's shirts. I had Ms. Sero blouses in every color, stripe and collar style. I used to wear Tanner blouses. For those of you too young or unfamiliar, Tanner blouses were white cotton blouses with a peter pan collar. The collar and sleeves were piped in either red, navy, kelly green or khaki. A lot of my friends had Tanner sweaters, but I was not a big fan. I owned plent of Dean's sweaters and Garland sweaters. I don't think either company is still around. Remember Bobbie Brooks and College Town? Those were the top companies for polyester double knit ensembles. They were sold in medium priced stores. Now, I think Bobbie Brooks is sold at WalMart. Back in the day, most preppy clothing came from the Pappagallo Shop, The Talbots, The Tog Shop or LL Bean. Does anyone remember Peter Popovitch? The skirts were loud prints worn with white tees that had a swatch of the skirt fabric on the chest. This outfit was worn with a pair of Tretorns that had a gullwing that was the color of the skirt. Of course, when I wasn't wearing Tretorns, I was wearing my Bass Weejuns with the bow/tassel. I miss my old preppy clothes. And it's hard to find substitutes. Does anyone feel that way, but me?
I guess every once in a while, we need a walk down memory lane.
I hope everyone has a good Friday.

I remember everything you said!! The two that were my faves were John Meyer and Villager. I also loved Pendleton. It is still around! I still have my bass weejuns!!! Don't the J. Crew flats remind you of Pappagallo's??
I remember Villager. I had a Villager outfit that I thought was top drawer. I dont' remember John Meyer. I still wear Pendleton. There's a Pendleton outlet in Pigeon Forge/Sevierville. Yes, the J. Crew flats do remind me of Pappagallo's, but I have narrow feet and can't wear them.
We actually have a full price Pendleton store on the Marietta Square. It's been there for about 10 years. I didn't give it a chance, since the Square is mostly restaurants and antique stores. I'm glad I was wrong.
Now Villager is sold at Kohl's. I'm sure like all the good brands, it's not the same anymore.
Yes, yes, yes, I feel that way! I found your blog through Bunny Tomerlin and am so glad!
I remember all of those brands!!!! Remember J.G. Hook?
Oh My Goodness, Bobbie Brooks! How could I have forgotten that one! And Pappagallo...I think the loss of Pappagallo is the one I miss the most of all the brands that have disappeared in my lifetime.
Great post Miss Cupcakes!
