Today was day 2 of the preppy challenge. I wore a Brooks Brothers gray wool jumper, a pink OCBD, pearls (of course) and black Ferragamo loafers.

Tickled Pink & Green posted about Laura Ashley today. It got me to thinking about a LA black watch plaid jumper that is hanging in my closet. I may wash it and wear it one day next week with a yellow turtleneck. What color is appropriate to wear with black watch plaid, navy or black? I've seen and wore both.

I have a predicament that I need advice on. I am a member of a local ladies club. We have a national conference in a few weeks in a city that is about 6 hours away. I am taking my mother along as my guest. A member of our club asked me if I had a roommate. I told her I was sorry but my mother was going with me. She then asked if she could room with us and use a roll away bed. It sort of blind sided me. I didn't know what to say. I told her that I would have to check with my mother, and she said, "Okay, let me know what she says." This woman is very nice, but she can get on my nerves sometimes. She travels like she's going on Cleopatra's Barge. Plus, I'm the national president this year, so I have a lot of stuff also. I really don't know what to say. If I told her that my mother didn't think it was a good idea, it would make my mother look like the bad person. I can't use the excuse that my mother doesn't know her, because she has met my mother. I really don't know what to do. I don't want to hurt her feelings. Any advice?

I hope everyone has a good Friday.

NO. That will be a nightmare trip with 3 women in a room + a rollaway bed. I mean can you imagine trying to shower and get ready and all that! ?? Yikes. Just tell her you are sorry but you and your mom are rooming together and you wanted a mother/daughter weekend so you are just gonna keep it the two of you. What does your mother say?? You could then say maybe she could get an adjoining room that allows you to open the door between rooms. Then she would be near you and your mother, but you would have plenty of room. It also sounds like you need no stress since you are president!

Thanks Preppy 101 for the advice. I may try that. I wish she had email so that I could email her exactly what you said, but I'm going to have to tell her over the telephone.

I agree with Miss Preppy101. Tell her you and your mama want some time together...that should do it!

YIKES! What an awkward position to be put in. I agree with all the other suggestions. Maybe you could offer a "raincheck"...next time when your mom's not with you maybe the two of you could room together.

I agree with Preppy 101-absolutely not. It would make such a stressful trip for you and your mother and it's just not worth it. I like Preppy 101's idea of saying that you wanted a mother/daughter weekend. That seems like the most graceful way to say no.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
